Singapore’s paternity policy has always been a major concern for parents. In the past,\u00a0only female relatives\u00a0such as mothers, grandmothers and grandfathers could apply for a companion pass to legally enter and stay in Singapore to accompany their children\u00a0under the age of 16.<\/section>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n

Now, the good news is that the Immigration Department of Singapore has updated its paternity policy to\u00a0allow male relatives\u00a0such as fathers, grandfathers and grandmothers to apply for a paternity pass!<\/section>\n

The child must be a legally enrolled\u00a0full-time student\u00a0in Singapore with a legal Singapore student visa.<\/p>\n

The child is aged\u00a03-16 years old<\/p>\n

The child’s Student’s Pass category should include\u00a0eligibility to allow dependents to apply for a Companion Pass: Singapore government schools, government self-governing and autonomous schools are eligible; Sam Yuk Primary and Secondary School and St. Francis Methodist School are the only private schools eligible to apply for a Student’s Pass for their students; international schools that have been awarded the Council for Private Education’s (CPE) EduTrust are eligible to apply. Accredited international schools are eligible to apply<\/p>\n

Only one parent\u00a0may apply for a Student Pass for each student. (No matter how many children in a family are studying in Singapore, the number of relatives who can be granted a Companion Pass is still limited to one)<\/p>\n

A Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident (aged 21 or above) is required to act as a\u00a0sponsor.<\/p>\n

Validity of the Companion Pass: 1 year, which needs to be renewed every year until the child turns 16 or the Student’s Pass expires.<\/p>\n

Approval Time: As long as the applicant submits all the necessary documents and meets the requirements, his\/her application will be processed within six weeks.<\/p>\n
